In the beginning.........
The Mandrin Bird Feeder was designed by St. Louis artist, James Fisher. Frustrated by squirrels invading his backyard feeders gobbling up seed and frightening off birds, Jim designed a squirrel-proof feeder that he first called the "Tin Woodsman." He made the original model from sheet plastic melted around a wooden model in his kitchen oven. Together he and his friend, Frederick Taussig, a plastics engineer developed what is known today as the Mandarin. |
