Cardinal Feeders.....are as diverse as the song of this beautiful bird. Cardinals prefer platform and hopper type bird feeders placed near the ground. Although seed on the ground will attract them just as easily. They will eat out of tube feeders, when food is scarce, especially those with an area for them to stand on to feed. The Cardinals favorite foods are Apples, Bread and other baked grain items, Corn, Peanuts (shelled), Safflower Seed, Suet, Black Oil and Striped Sunflower Seeds.
The male Cardinal is dominant at the feeder until mating season begins. At this point the male will actually feed the female. This is a sign that the courtship has begun and that the birds are paired and about to start their breeding season. Cardinals pair for life and will bring their young to feed at their favorite feeders. During the winter months Cardinals will flock together and stay together where there is an abundant food source. In the spring, when breeding season starts Cardinals will become territorial and usually you will only see single birds or pairs. Cardinals usually will nest within the same area year after year. Once you have attracted the attention of this magnificent bird to your Cardinal Feeder, you will be able to enjoy it for a very long time.
Be sure to check our Cardinal Feeders for all your cardinal needs.
