Chickadees..... are one of the friendliest birds to humans. They seem to hold little fear of us. In fact, they are among the easiest tamed to hand feeding. These jaunty acrobats are highly active at bird feeders and often will be seen turning upside down to eat. Because of the Chickadee's high energy level, they require high energy food, and lots of it. Therefore making them a visitor often to bird feeders.
The male and female Chickadee look just alike with black caps, bibs and white cheeks. They are cavity nesters, often taking advantage of nest boxes that are placed 1-10 feet off the ground. Chickadees build their nest out of feathers, moss, hair, silken cocoons, plant fibers and down. Also, you can make "nesting material" by putting your dryer lint into knee high hose. Tie the end of the hose and hang from a tree. Most birds will use this to help build their nest, but with Chickadees it is a favorite.
