Tufted Timouse prefer an environment with many species of trees. They prefer a dense canopy and will nest in suburbon areas as long as there is water and lots of trees, especially trees with cavities for nesting. Tufted Titmouses build their nests in the cavities of old trees, in old woodpecker nest and sometimes in small nest boxes with a hole diameter of 1.25 inches. Tufted Titmouse Birdhouses are the same size birdhouse as wrens and other small birds will use. The nest is built with dried grass, moss, leaves, cotton, hair, feathers and other items found in the area. The female incubates the eggs, usually 5-6, while the male is responsible for feeding her the entire time she is sitting on the nest.
The Titmouse eats many types of bugs that climb on trees such as beetles, caterpillers, ants, treehoppers spiders and snails. They will also eat wasps, bees and forage on the ground for seeds. The titmouse will hide seeds in trees for winter foraging. Although not friendly at feeders, these birds will visit often, especially in the winter time.
The Titmouse and the Wren use the same size birdhouses. We have sorted our products for the Tufted Titmouse for your convenience.
